Meet The Doctor

Melissa Roth, DVM

San Diego, CA native here! Although a very social child, I found that if an animal (dog, cat, bird, turtle, you name it) was around, I would gravitate to the pet and not leave its side until I was told I had to do so.

I began my journey to becoming a veterinarian in earnest after working as an animal care giver and adoption counselor at the San Diego SPCA.  Not only did I get to experience what truly resilient, loving, and adaptable creatures companion animals are, I also got to take note of how compassionate and giving us human beings could be when working towards a positive goal.

After completing my undergraduate requirements at UC Davis, I packed up and headed south where I attended the Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine.  While there I volunteered heavily at the local animal shelters.  Also during my time at LSU SVM my passion for small animal medicine blossomed and I knew caring for animals and becoming their advocate would always be an integral part of my life.

It is a real honor to be able to provide comfort and dignity to the pets and their loving family I am lucky enough to meet.  Thank you for allowing me to be a part of your family's journey.

"You won't find a more caring, compassionate, gentle, respectful person to assist your beloved pet out of its misery."

"I want to thank Dr. Melissa Roth for her kind words and calm demeanor when helping our little Penny. She spoke to her sweetly as we did and petted her just like we did. This was a difficult and emotional moment and Dr. Melissa made us feel comfortable to express whatever we felt and gave us time with our sweet kitty. Thank you once again."

"Dr. Melissa could not have been more helpful, caring, and understanding the day I sent my little Rosy over Rainbow Bridge. From the initial call to Laps of Love that was answered so tenderly by Kelly, to Dr. Melissa's call to let me know she was on her way, I felt more comfortable with the hardest decision I have yet to make. When Dr. Melissa arrived, she was positive and reassuring, she brought a calming energy with her that I truly appreciate. She examined Rosy, asked a lot of questions as to her medical care up to that point, and confirmed that it was time to end her suffering. She explained the process, what she was doing, and why! I felt supported and relaxed, enough so that I could focus on being calm for Rosy and give her the best send off I possibly could. Rosy's last moments were beautiful, the day was sunny and cool. The wind chimes were blowing and singing to all of us. Dr. Melissa allowed me told Rosy for as long as I wanted and needed. When it was time to hand her over, Dr. Melissa did so with such care and compassion. I walked out with her to her car and kissed Rosy on her little face one last time. I covered her face and tucked her in, rubbed her back, told her I loved her one last time. Thank You for this incredible service! I dreaded taking Rosy to the vet, the car ride there, the cold stark room, trying to leave her, the drive home.... not at all what I wanted or what Rosy deserved. Instead, we were both at home, comfortable, and at ease."

"Dr. Roth is truly a wonderful and caring person. She guided us through the process with gentle words and gave us ample time to say goodby to our little girl. Even though I was with my partner, I felt the need to give her a big hug, which she returned with a steady embrace. She offered to stay with us for if we needed it and encouraged us to call her if we needed some emotional support. At times like this it's difficult to express your feelings around a stranger, but Dr. Roth's gentle and kind words really put us at ease. She followed up with an email to make sure everything was ok and offered again to talk to us if we needed support. I would recommend her with out reservation. Thanks Dr. Roth"

"It's been a couple months now since needing to put our 16 year old cat, Joey, to sleep and didn't want to let any more time go by before expressing my gratitude to Lap of Love and more specifically to Dr. Melissa Roth. I just couldn't imagine taking Joey into the vet's office with all the commotion and other animal noises and smells to have her put to sleep. Calling Lap of Love was the very best answer to this very difficult time. From the kind fellow who answered my call to Dr. Melissa each step was filled with kindness. Dr. Melissa related instantly to Joey keeping her calm and at ease, which in turn assured me that I had made the right decision to call. She is gentle beyond words even as she described each step she would take. Thank you so very much for making this process possible at home and for the kind and peaceful spirit you brought."

"Dr. Melissa Roth is an amazing person. She gave her heart and soul to Lexi in her final moments.

I knew that Lexi felt extremely loved by her and trusted that everything would be ok as Dr. Melissa looked into

her eyes, spoke to her and petted her. She was truly an Angel of compassion and peace to Lexi and our family.

Thank you so much! We are blessed to have had this experience in Lexi's final moments here on earth."

“For 14 years Henry brought my heart immense joy and happiness. You showed me the definition of unconditional love; always happy to see me. You were the first one to greet me at the window when I got home from work and the first one to yell for food in the morning. You loved us with all your heart; rubbing your muzzle on my face to wake me up, the ...

“Miko was unique from day one. He was the only multi-colored Malti-poo in his litter that was full of white pups. I instantly fell in love with him. He was 2 months when I brought him home. He was potty trained and mellow for a puppy. We were never apart. He was very loyal and very spoiled. He got away with everything. He was very handsome and ...

“Dear Elvis, I never imagined how abruptly life can change by having you taken away from us so soon by ugly osteosarcoma cancer only at 5 years old. I wish we could prepare, I wish we found out sooner, but since you always loved to make me and your Uncle Walt so happy, you kept it inside of that rib cage until you could no longer hide it. It is ...
