Helping Families Honor the Lives Of Those They Love
Lap of Love Veterinarian: Erica Fry, DVM"Our beloved cat, Bullet, has passed away at the grand ole age of 20. Her passing has my wife and I are greatly saddened but know that her most recent physical struggles have ended and she is at peace. Up until the very end Bullet always wanted to be near us, either in her cozy bed next to her personal heater or up in my lap every evening.

We knew we would have to euthanize her at some point and were dreading having to take her to the vet like we had done in the past with our other cats. We viewed taking pets to the veterinarian's office for the purpose of ending their life was to some degree a cruel event...heightening their level of anxiety during the last moments of their life.

In Bullet's case, she was a very anxious cat and always had to be sedated when brought to the vet's office for regular checkups or treatments. Otherwise she would be very aggressive to the technicians, doctor, and unfortunately to us at times. Clearly we did not want that kind of episode to play out in the event we needed to take her in during her last moments of life.

So my wife and I began exploring in-home euthanasia as an alternative. And thankfully we heard about Lap of Love so gave them a call. Dr. Erica came to our house for an initial visit and described the process. We were so taken with Dr. Erica's "bedside manner" ...straightforward description with compassion and understanding. Six weeks later, Bullet was struggling with mobility and we knew the time was near so we contacted Dr. Erica.

Bullet's passing was a very peaceful event. Her last moments were spent on my lap with both my wife and I comforting her. Dr. Erica caring and compassion was the reason for Bullet's passing to be so peaceful. Dr. Erica referred to Bullet as our little angel. While that may be true, Dr. Erica is an angel as well.

Should we ever have need of these services again with future pets we will always choose in-home euthanasia. It means the world of difference to the pet..and the pet owner.

Thanks so much Dr. Erica and Lap of Love."

Lap of Love Veterinarian: Kristine Campanelli, DVM"Dr Kristine Campanelli gave us a profound gift for which we will always be grateful. She gave our family and our beloved elderly Newfoundland dog Travis, a way to say good bye to one another, with comfort, dignity and love. It was obvious from the very start, that her caring and compassion were genuine and from deep within. Not so much a job for her, but more a mission of love. Wrapped in that love, she guided our broken hearts along with our old friend, to the next place. She did for us, what all good healers do. She helped to take away the pain …and in a peaceful circle of love, on our living room floor -with tears and kisses, we said goodbye. It was right where he needed to be. It was right were we all needed to be. Thank you Dr. Kristine, from the bottom of our hearts."Dan and Pam MoodyFarmingdale, NYFebruary 17, 2017Travis Blue's Pet Memorial
Lap of Love Veterinarian: Tina Olivieri, DVM"Words can not express how grateful my husband and I are to Dr. Tina. Our beloved labrador, Petey, was diagnosed with TCC (transitional cell carcinoma) affecting his prostate in September 2016. He underwent 5 rounds of radiation and was put on piroxicam to alleviate his symptoms. Unfortunately, by the end of January 2017 he developed an ulcer from his medication and we had to stop giving him the only medication that was keeping him feeling well and alive. By this time we knew the end was near. We began spending more time with him and spoiling him as much as possible, while closely monitoring him for signs of critical complications. It was then we noticed that he was beginning to have problems urinating and rushed him to the emergency vet. As it turns out his bladder was full and they had to use a catheter to help him expel the urine. We were told that he, most likely, would no longer be able to urinate on his own, and although some options were given to us, we did not feel that any were appropriate for Petey since they would only further prolong his agony. We felt that he had fought long and hard and we needed to let him go. We knew we wanted it to be as painless and peaceful as possible, since he deserved only the best.

We contacted Lap of Love, and specifically asked for Dr. Tina. We had previously met Dr. Tina when she had helped our other dog, Momma, an extremely loyal and kindhearted pitiful mix, peacefully pass about a year before. At the time we were so distraught. Momma was our first dog and she was our shadow. She had suffered from liver disease for a few years and was on medications but eventually even with medication she got to the point were she was experiencing the signs and symptoms of end stage liver failure. So when we saw she was feeling unwell and refused to eat for a few days we contacted Lap of Love and that's how we first met Dr. Tina.

Dr. Tina made us feel very secure in our decision and reassured us that we were in fact doing the right thing for Momma. Thanks to Dr. Tina, Momma passed very peacefully and we were so happy to be able to give her that. So when it was time to help Petey along we knew we wanted Dr. Tina to be the one to help him.

Both of our dogs had very peaceful and painless passings. Dr. Tina takes her time explaining everything to you so you know what to expect. She doesn't rush you and gives you all the time you need to say good bye. She also closely listens to any concerns you may have and answers all of your questions. This is such a difficult things to go through, as pet owners, so it helps to have a knowledgable, experienced veterinarian like Dr. Tina by your side.

We are forever grateful to Dr. Tina. She demonstrated true kindness and compassion towards us, and more importantly towards both our dogs in our time of need. She is truly great soul. We are so lucky and honored to know her. Thank you Dr. Tina."

Lap of Love Veterinarian: Annie Dion-Byrd, DVM"When it was time to say goodbye to our beloved cat, Capri, my veterinarian recommended Lap of Love. This was the best suggestion he could have made. Though it was heartbreaking to say goodbye to our sweet girl, Dr. Annie was so gentle and understanding--not only with her but also with us, and her patience and kindness made us feel very comforted. We all wish for our loved ones to go peacefully in their sleep, and this is the closest we could come to ensuring this would happen. Capri was very much my shadow, and I miss her more than words can say. Yet I am grateful that I have no regrets about her life OR the manner of her death. Though I only met Dr. Annie for a short time, she will remain in my heart forever. What a beautiful gift she gave us."Erica KeckleyOrlando, FloridaFebruary 15, 2017
Lap of Love Veterinarian: Lauren Cassady, DVM"Going into this kind of situation is a horrible, especially making this decision for my Charlie Brown and myself. I called a few other services where I had to coordinate more than just the service to come to my home, but also with the creamatorie as well. They started to run together in my head and it was just too overwhelming to do this during this time with such a heavy heart. Lap of Love took care of everything, with coordination and communication. On top of that, during such an emotional time, they got to the point with just enough compassion, that didn't feel insincere or forced. Dr. Cassady was the perfect person to take care of Charlie Brown during what might have been one of the worst days of my life. She handled this time just like meeting with the family before a funeral to bring back the happy and good times to the forefront of our minds and hearts. We were able to go through these steps, to be in the situation with immense pain and grief, knowing that he, my sweet Charlie Brown, my shadow, deserved the best until the end. He died comfortably in his bed, in my arms, so calm, so comfortable, giving me strength and love until the end. There is no such thing as closure, but the choice to do this, to be able to see him to her car, say goodbye (if that's even possible). I received a beautiful email the following Monday from Dr. Lauren with a type of eulogy on Charlie Brown that I immediately passed along to my friends and family as well as sharing it on facebook. They were as touched as I was by this sentiment. I then received a call from the crematorie that Charlie Brown was being sent back to me. It was like a punch in the gut, but the fact that they knew what my reaction would be, they again showed so much care, compassion and sincerity. Yesterday, I received a beautiful wooden box with a poem as well as a pamphlet with more education on this grieving process. They know this is not just a 'pet' and that he and I were soulmates, he and I were part of each other. Thank you for everything in this devastating situation, your care and compassion will never be forgotten."Kate LiptonAtlanta, GeorgiaFebruary 15, 2017

Dr. Rene walked us through every scenario of our aging pet so we were able to gain a clearer picture of our options. In the end our family was in agreement that is was Lola's time to be with the angels. Dr. Butler guided us gently and with utmost care and concern for Lola. She passed peacefully in my arms. Lap of Love Veterinarian: Katie Stender, DVM"Dear Dr. Mc Vety, Dr. Gardner, and Dr. Stender,
I would like to take this moment to commend Dr. Katie Stender for her caring, kindness, professional, and patient personality traits on her recent visit to my home in North Florida. I could not have hand picked a more wholesome and caring soul to accompany me during this most difficult time. Dr. Stender may be delivering our beloved furry friends their Angel wings, and allowing them to pass peacefully, but Dr. Katie has already obtained her Angel wings. Dr. Stender is every employers dream emplyee. Dr. Stender is a true asset to your organization, and I was honored to have her perform this difficult task for my beloved Chocolate Labrador, Lacy. I was honored with the presence of Lacy for almost 13.5 years. It was difficult to let her go, though I know if I had her for a number of years more that those years would not have been enough either. Unfortunately her time here on earth was through. My animals are my children. Dr. Katie allowed me to say my goodbye in an unrushed manner. For that I am eternally grateful. It is my wish for your organization that all of your Veternarians are as special and caring as Dr. Stender. I look forward to crossing the Rainbow Bridge with my beloved pets (past, present, and future) one day. Bless Dr. Stender, You the founding members, your organization, and all of your employees. You perform an unwelcomed task with care, patience, and dignity. I am forever grateful.
Respectfully, Lou Frost"

Lap of Love Veterinarian: Annie Dion-Byrd, DVM"Two angels came into and left our lives yesterday. Our angel, Auggie, was a sixteen year old tabby cat. She was so much a part of our life, it upsets me how that was taken for granted sometimes. The smallest things make me cry as I think of the ways her presence made my day. The hardest things are looking at her familiar and favorite hang-outs in the house, and seeing them vacant. I miss her adamant meows when she wanted something, and her little chirpy sounds as she patiently waited. Seeing her curled up in her favorite resting places, watching her at the window sill in the mornings, remembering all her Christmases when she would get into her gift, but love the tissue paper the most .The hardest thing is going to come home at night and her not being at the door to greet me--I dread that.
But, as with all living things, her time had come and as I watched her go peacefully to sleep, I was happy somehow. Dr. Annie was the second angel yesterday. When she came to the house, I felt immediately assured that she would do it respectfully and compassionately. Whatever doubts I had that she would encounter "Ninja cat" as she phrased it, and not be able to do for Auggie, were quickly put to rest. She was very calm and confident that everything would be fine. And, it was and I am forever grateful to this wonderful service that provided me with Dr. Annie, and the peace of mind I now have.
Anyone who is agonizing over the final decision, please know that you will find comfort and caring with Lap of Love, and should you be lucky enough to have Dr. Annie, you are blessed to have her at that most difficult time."
